Keeping It Simple

The complex and confusing policies and benefits of health insurance plans are by far the major complaints of most patients, doctors and nurses. None of us can fix or solve the problem.  (Nalle Clinic, a respected institute also could not handle it) However, there are ways we can reduce the confusion and make life easier and simpler:
  1. READ YOUR PATIENT BENEFIT MANUAL!
Empower yourself by better knowledge of your plan. It is much easier for you to know one plan than to expect your doctor to keep up with different policies of 10-12 plans. (Doctors are trained to learn medicine, not insurance policies and reimbursement!)
  2. Call your Members Services Representative for any questions. Ask for his/her name for further reference if there is a question.
  3. Give your doctor plenty of time for referrals. Do not wait till the last hour or day for referral authorization. We have to take care of patients and we simply cannot process your referrals immediately. Referral is time consuming especially when the insurance carrier rejects the referral.
  4. Keep us up to date if there is any change in your insurance plan.
DO NOT assume we know (forms are available at Home Page )
  5. Insurance is just a "safety net" for your life
Please DO NOT expect your insurance to cover everything you need/want.
  6. Last but not least, stay calm and keep your cool. It is not healthy to be upset over reimbursement problems. Complain to your company's benefit coordinator. Your insurance carrier pays attention to your company since your company pays the bill!

Confused?

Due to the complex nature of insurance plans, the information here may not be accurate/up-to-date. Please refer to your employer or patient/Benefits Manual for details.
